“Basahalom boulevard” writes about two stories from Debrecen city, what according to the blogger ” – I afraid so - will most probably not be covered by local media”.

1. Although the Beer Fest was cancelled at Debrecen, the city mayor (with a few other official) still paid a visit to the prestigious Munich OctoberFest to gain experiences. As the Basahalom ironically comments: “As the purpose of the travel was for a city cause, we can only hope they were not wasting any of their own money”.

2. The head of the Debrecen 2010 program office (Henrik’s note: Debrecen is one of the Hungarian cities competing for the title 2010 European Cultural Capital city ) had a car breakdown (without personal injuries) in a nearby country. And although he is not a municipal employee and he was not on official business their (it was a personal ,family trip), the city municipality helped him by sending a office vehicle to help him out. Basahalom adds with noticeable irony again: “Dear Debrecen citizens, if you get into trouble abroad, just call the mayer’s office (52/511-400) and the help will be on the road right away!”
